Peter Agostino
LCPC, MA
Psychotherapist
Peter has always been curious about what is going on with people beyond the surface. This curiosity grew into a passion for Peter, embracing empathy and a deep interest in human psychology and asking the age-old question “why am I the way I am”? Partly driven by a desire to understand himself and partly driven by wanting to understand others, Peter began his journey as a psychotherapist
His approach to the therapeutic process is rooted in this curiosity, a genuine desire to get to know his clients as whole and complete people, and the core belief that people are the owners of their own stories and the authors of their futures. When a client comes to therapy, it is just as important to understand what makes them happy as it is to understand what their concerns are. The whole person matters.
Peter is known for creating a calm and caring environment that helps ease clients into the therapeutic process. If someone has never been to therapy before, that’s okay! It can be scary but starting that journey more than half the battle
Peter began his career working with students in the Woodlawn neighborhood in Chicago and has worked extensively with clients from diverse backgrounds. He believe that cultural humility and awareness are two of the most important qualities for a therapist to have. Peter has also spent a portion of his career working in Training and Development, leading workshops on topics such as: DSM Diagnosis, LGBTQ 101, Masculinity, Conflict Resolution, Self Care and Emotional Intelligence. Peter often pulls from his experience to bring in competents of his training background into his therapeutic practice.
Peter wants you to come as you are and work in partnership as we unravel your story and give you the tools you need to own and drive your story into the future.
Key beliefs:
We cannot always change our past, but we can change our past and affect our future.
Everyone is capable of change and defining happiness for themselves.
Each person has value just because they exist.
Everyone has a different path to happiness, and it is okay if your path looks different than someone elses.
More about me:
Peter enjoys all things nerdy including comic books, movies, TV, manga and video games. In his free time you can find Peter on a long walk in nature, checking out a new food he just heard of, or going to concerts of any number of his favorite bands.
