Somatic Therapy

Healing isn't only something we understand. It's something we feel. Many of us learned to disconnect from our bodies to survive: to get through trauma, missed attunement, and the everyday stress of living within oppressive systems that can be retraumatizing.

Somatic therapy invites your body back into the conversation, so change can happen where your patterns actually live.

Your body has been taking care of you all along.

In somatic-informed therapy, we get curious about how your body has adapted to keep you safe, and help you build a new partnership with it.

Move Beyond Knowing With Somatic Therapy

You’ve put in the work and still find yourself stuck in the same cycles.

Insight matters but understanding why you react the way you do doesn't always change how it feels in the moment. Your chest feels tight, your mind goes blank, or you shut down in an argument. Somatic therapy moves beyond intellectual knowing into a more embodied way of being with yourself.

You don't have to put everything you've experienced into words to find your way.

Through movement, gesture, breath, and body awareness practices, you'll explore how emotions and sensations show up physically. Over time, this can help you release stress, feel more connected to yourself, and build more capacity to stay present with strong emotions, activation, and hard situations.

“As long as you keep secrets and suppress information, you are fundamentally at war with yourself. The critical issue is allowing yourself to know what you know. That takes an enormous amount of courage.”

How We Bring the Body Into Somatic Therapy

Connecting body and mind isn't something any single form of therapy can do alone. At LifePath, we take an integrative approach. Some of our therapists have advanced training in somatic approaches, while others weave body awareness into their work throughout sessions.

Depending on your therapist, sessions may draw on approaches such as EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, or NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM).

Whatever approach fits you, every therapist at LifePath welcomes your whole self into the room. Our intake team can help match you with a therapist whose way of working with the body fits what you're looking for.

On the other side of somatic work, you might notice:

  • More ease and energy in your mind, heart, and body

  • A friendlier relationship with your body's wisdom, and an understanding of how it has cared for you throughout your life

  • A partnership with your body instead of a fight against it

  • Growing self-acceptance, self-love, and even pride in who you are at your core

  • Less need to mask, and an easier recovery from situations where masking feels necessary

  • Conflict and differences in relationships becoming opportunities for growth instead of threat or disconnection

  • More wholehearted, enthusiastic engagement in the things you love

You don't need any experience with body-based work to begin. Come as you are, and we'll go at your pace.
